Until yesterday, I have never done a radio interview. It was a wonderful experience, thanks to master interviewer, Michael Olson. In preparation for the interview, I listened to quite a few of his archived interviews and learned a lot. Once again, I came away with that realization that I still have so much more to learn.
Towards the end of the interview, I mentioned that working together to face challenges is something that helps us bond as a family. When we work together to overcome adversity, it creates a common bond. At some point during the school year, I mention that one of the best ways to bring people together is to create a common enemy. We underestimate the power of commonality, of belonging. Our society is so focused on diversity and individuality that we overlook the importance of common bond, of sameness, of the things we share that help to create community.
